This was Melitanet, one of Malta’s first internet service providers, set up in 1995 — back when getting online here meant a modem, a phone line, and a certain amount of patience. Through the 1990s and into the early 2000s it held the plain melita.net as well. It hung up for the last time some years ago, and the line has been quiet ever since.

The mail servers are off, the customer pages are gone, and the modems are in whatever afterlife awaits modems. Only the domain is still standing, mostly out of politeness.

Not Melita. The cable and mobile operator on melita.com is a different, and very much alive, company — and it only got into the internet business years after Melitanet was already dialling. Similar name, no relation. If you were looking for them, that is the way out.
